Let's talk dental implants!

DENTAL  IMPLANT HISTORY
Dental Implants were developed in 1952 in Sweden. A researcher discovered that the titatanium microscopes he was using to study bone grafting accidentaly bonded to living bone tissue. Further studies found that titanium could be structurally integrated into a jaw bone, replacing a "root" of a missing tooth.

CURRENT DAY dental implants are small, study titanium posts that are inserted into the jaw bone. After the bone has grown around the implant, a crown, bridge or denture can be attached to it, making them a very permanent replacement for missing teeth.

It used to be that, once a tooth was gone, it was just gone! Look at George Washington and his wooden teeth. (They  were actually ivory and other peoples dead teeth.!) No wonder he always looked a little uptight!

Fortunately, we can do much better than this now! Once an
implant is placed, and the site has healed, your dentist will    fabricate aesthetically beautiful crowns or bridges to permanently attach to the implant. Implants are very durable and can last a lifetime. They do of course require the same maintenance as natural teeth; this includes brushing, flossing and regular dental check ups. Dentures can also be attached with snaps or clips that make it hold very tightly for greater comfort.

Here's a great list of reasons why you should consider an implant or implants to replace your missing teeth:
  • To replace one or more teeth comfortable and permanently
  • to provide support for a partial denture
  • to increase the support and stability of a full upper or lower denture
  • to enhance chewing comfort
  • to increase confidence while smiling, talking and eating
  • to improve your overall psychological health
  • to improve esthetic appearance
